Radical Rightwing Domestic Terrorism and the Hate Crime Bill were the hot topics yesterday in our class. As I stated in the first post on IntelliBible.com, this site was born out of an adult Sunday school class I lead each week at the Yreka Church of the Nazarene. We jump around to different topics, depending on what’s going on and what is of interest to the class members.
One of the most popular subjects everyone wants to talk about is current events and how they relate to the Bible. Well, a lot had happened in the past weeks. The first issue we covered was Janet Napolitano’s release of the document entitled “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment”. In this report, distributed to all 50 states and their local law enforcement agencies, the Department of Homeland Security identifies several types of people that should be watched as possible domestic terrorists. Among them are:
Veterans
Christians who believe in “end times” prophecies
Anyone who stockpiles food and/or ammunition
As a Christian and a veteran, I am shocked by this assessment. Anyone who has given up their personal life and served to protect the country they love is now to be suspected as possible domestic terrorists. Are West Point and Annapolis to be considered terrorist training camps?

I also find it disturbing that Christians, and no other religion, were singled out as possible terrorist. How many Christians were responsible for the hijackings on 9/11? It’s amazing that the people who hold to the same beliefs that this country was established on are now outsiders and to be considered threats. The pilgrims who landed at Plymouth Rock did so to escape religious persecution, not establish a country that fosters it.
The second topic of discussion was the House’s passage of H.R. 1913, also known as the Matthew Shepard Act (a homosexual who was murdered during a robbery – not an act of discrimination). This bill, almost guaranteed to pass the Senate and be signed into law by the President, will undoubtedly give legal strength to act against people identified in the declaration on Rightwing Terrorism. Under this law reading
Romans 1:27
Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.
in public, would be guilty of a crime. However, no one points out to Janet Napolitano that her declaration on rightwing terrorism, by singling out Christians, makes her guilty of the same crime. The bill states:
(1) IN GENERAL- At the request of a State, local, or tribal law enforcement agency, the Attorney General may provide technical, forensic, prosecutorial, or any other form of assistance in the criminal investigation or prosecution of any crime that–
(A) constitutes a crime of violence;
(B) constitutes a felony under the State, local, or tribal laws; and
(C) is motivated by prejudice based on the actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability of the victim, or is a violation of the State, local, or tribal hate crime laws.
It should also be noted that Congress refused to define “sexual orientation” in the bill. Any court could expand this definition to the protection of incest, child molestation or any other form of sexual behavior. Under this law the government can influence and restrict what can be said even from the pulpits of Christian churches in America. I doubt, very much, if the same effort would be made to censor anything spoken in a mosque.
2 Timothy 3:1
But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:
It seems evident that perilous times are, indeed, here. I realize that this puts me in the category of possible domestic terrorists, but I’m more concerned with believing God, than Congress. Congress would do well to remember the Bill of Rights that states:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
For anyone who doesn’t believe we are in the last days I’d like to say “thank you”. You are a fulfillment of prophesy:
2 Peter 3:2-4 (New King James Version)
2 that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, 3 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, 4 and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.”
As United States citizens, it is our right and duty to speak out against the destruction of our country and “petition the Government for a redress of grievances”. We should be bold in standing up against the statement by Janet Napolitano on Radical Rightwing Domestic Terrorism and the Hate Crime Bill.
